Walk Friendly Community
Cary is designated as a Bronze-level community due to the town's commitment to improving walkability in Downtown and creating an extensive trail network. Highlights of Cary's application include:
Cary currently has 60 miles of trails and greenways, with another 190 miles included in their Trails Plan. All of Cary’s greenways are constructed with benches, directional signs, and public art to help foster a better walking environment.
Cary’s Downtown Streetscape Project was created to provide a walkable downtown by improving roadway design and streetscape environments. Improvements include upgrading street lighting, adding raised crosswalks, widening sidewalks, incorporating public art into sidewalk furniture and bus shelters, creating roundabouts, and placing utility wires below ground.
